DISCIPLESHIP


God created us to become like his son Jesus Christ. In Romans 8:29b (TLB) it says, “From the very beginning God decided that those who came to him – and all along he knew who would – should become like his Son.” In fact, we can discover God’s original purpose in all his creation when we look at Jesus. Paul writes in Philippians 2:5 (NCV), “In your lives you must think and act like Christ Jesus.” The fruit of the Spirit (love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control) is perhaps the best picture of Jesus Christ. The third purpose of life is to grow in maturity. The Bible calls this discipleship. That is what this section of our website attempts to accomplish … help cultivate spiritual maturity. 


Part of FBC’s purpose as a church is to guide believers toward a Christ-like lifestyle. I like what 2 Peter 1:5-7 says in The Message Bible, “Don’t lose a minute in building on what you’ve been given, complementing your basic faith with good character, spiritual understanding, alert discipline, passionate patience, reverent wonder, warm friendliness, and generous love, each dimension fitting into and developing the others.” We like to think of this process as Choosing Progress. 


On this page we will provide tools to help in your progress toward growing more like Christ. These will include links to materials, Bible studies, growth group info and sign-ups, online classes (coming soon), as well as all the materials for any Spiritual Growth Campaign we undertake. 


At FBC, we value people. We believe that people matter to God. One of the questions we ask ourselves is if we are investing in the lives of others. This page is intended to expand what we do to invest in the lives of people. 


GROWTH GROUPS

The heart of FBC is our Growth Groups. We believe each person needs to be a part of a group. Our Growth Group Team desires to see every person engaged in a healthy Growth Group. This team works diligently to get people in groups and to assist in getting groups healthy and keeping them healthy. We have many options for you and we know there is one right for you. The FBC dream is a dream of a family where believers gather to connect with each other in genuine friendships, learning to relate with unity and harmony. It is also a dream of a time where committed believers desire to grow in wisdom, knowledge and spiritual insight through Bible studies and growth groups. Above all, it is the dream of a spiritual hospital where the hurting come to be healed, forgiven, encouraged, and empowered, in order to become fully developed and devoted followers of Jesus Christ, serving Him with wounded yet healed hearts.
